It's an Arbor Day Celebration! Planting Our Future
We are excited to celebrate Arbor Day on March 18, 2026. In North Carolina, Arbor Day is recognized each year on the first Friday after March 15.
This year, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are making history!
In partnership with the Town of Wilkesboro and the N.C. Forest Service Urban & Community Forestry Program, our students will learn about trees, urban forests, and the value that our trees and green spaces bring to our lives. After a short program, our students will help rangers plant a white oak tree on our back playground to commemorate Arbor Day.
After helping out, each student will receive a free tree seedling to take home so they can keep the "tree-mendous" work going in their own neighborhoods.
The Wilkes County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Mobile Soil Classroom will be on site throughout the day to allow all students to visit and learn about soils.
You can learn more about our WES Arbor Day celebration on our SMORE page.

This celebration was brought to life by the energy and service of many grown ups. Thank you to our partners who shared their time, knowledge, and resources with our school. We are grateful and excited to share in this special day.
