Message from WES Principal

Hello Wilkesboro families! My name is Beckie Spears, and I am excited to share another school year with you. Wilkesboro Elementary has been part of my life forever -- first as a student, then as a teacher, as a parent, and now as a principal. It is an honor and privilege to work with your family and this community, and I am proud of our school's long tradition of excellence. I am a graduate of Meredith College (BA in English) and Appalachian State University (Masters in School Administration), and I am a National Board Certified Teacher. I have spent the past 26+ years teaching, learning, and collaborating as a classroom teacher, an AIG resource teacher, an instructional specialist, and an assistant principal. I live in Wilkesboro with my husband and our two daughters.

I enjoy working with students and their families to make each year the best school year ever. We want our school to be a positive, nurturing learning community where students and teachers are inspired to learn, supported to grow, and empowered to achieve. We believe in a whole-child approach, and it is our goal to make each school day enjoyable and rewarding. Learning is our passion, and when we combine joy and teamwork with focused effort, we can achieve amazing possibilities.

Message from WES Assistant Principal ~

Greetings Wilkesboro Eagles and Families! My name is Shanna Bumgarner. I am ecstatic to serve as your new assistant principal this school year. I attended all of my elementary school years here at Wilkesboro so this school holds special value to me and I feel very sentimental to be here and to serve to the best of my abilities. I currently live in North Wilkesboro with my husband, our two children, and two dogs.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Lees McRae College. I am nearing the completion of a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University. I am also a National Board-Certified Teacher. I have been dedicated to the field of education for sixteen years. I have worked with students ranging in age from Kindergarten through 5th grade in a variety of roles including ESL.

I support our school’s mission and vision which is to empower to learn, inspire to lead, believe in self and others, and empower all learners to reach their greatest potential. I believe education is a life-long process filled with experiences and opportunities and we should always strive for personal growth. It is my goal to maintain a safe and positive learning environment for all while also working collaboratively to build relationships with teachers, students, families, and the entire community.
