Greetings to the students, staff, families, and community of Wilkesboro Elementary School! #WE are beginning a wonderful new journey together! I am excited and honored to be able to serve you as your new full-time assistant principal!
I achieved my BS in Elementary Education (K-6) at Lees McRae. I taught 3rd and 5th grades at Mountain View Elementary and C.B. Eller Elementary while becoming National Board Certified as a Middle Childhood Generalist, which certified me to also teach all core subjects through ninth grade. Being interested in administration, in 2011 I applied for and was accepted into North Carolina Principal Fellows. I received my Masters in Administration from Western Carolina University in 2011, and returned back to the classroom at Mountain View Elementary School, where I taught 3rd and 4th grades. I transferred to East Wilkes Middle School as an 8th grade Math/Science teacher before becoming the assistant principal of Central Wilkes Middle School during the 2015/2016 school year. I was a CWMS Falcon for five years, and now I am a new EAGLE! I am currently in the Ed. S. program at Appalachian State University, and hope to complete this degree at the end of the spring semester of 2021. As you can see, I am a huge proponent of lifelong learning and of continuous improvement.
On the personal side, I have been married to my fantastic husband, Barry Cleary, for 28 years. I have two delightful daughters and two wonderful sons, and all have “left the nest.” In the last two years, I have been blessed with two adorable grandsons, Connor and Ashwin, who refer to me as Yaya (well, Ashwin doesn’t, but he’s only 5 months old). I am an avid animal lover and have one dog, an Akita named Tanka (the Terrible). In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family doing anything from just hanging out to running 5Ks to half marathons.
