A big thank you to Lowes! The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $15,934 grant to the Wilkesboro Elementary School for replacing the media center’s bookshelves. The center’s current shelves were dried out, splintered, and too high for students to reach. The grant will fund 25 new bookshelves to replace the existing ones. When the new bookcases were delivered this summer, several workers from Lowes came to Wilkesboro Elementary and helped move books, bookshelves and rearranged furniture so the library would be ready for students in August. Thank you to the following workers: Beth Coolay, Andy Martin, Jason Pilkington, Lance Nievaard and Terry Strickland for all your hard work from us at Wilkesboro Elementary School.
Reading over the summer is very important. There are many other activities in our county available for your child. Parents please have your child read over the summer. WES has set a school reading goal this summer. All K-2 students should read a book a day. 3rd Graders should read 30 pages a day. 4th Graders should read 40 pages a day. 5th Graders should read 50 pages a day. If students complete this goal they get to be a part of a field trip to ASU on November 30, 2016 to meet with the girls basketball team.
