School Bus Transportation

Our school buses transport students safely and efficiently each day. WCS guidelines require that an adult be present to receive any child in pre-K - 3rd grades off the bus. High school and middle school students may escort a Pre-K - 5th grade student, but Pre-K – 3rd grade students cannot be left with a 4th or 5th grade student. If no adult is present when the bus stops, drivers will bring students back to school for parents to pick up. For students in 4th-5th grades, parents may provide written permission for students to get off the bus without an adult present. Buses may only allow students to get off at designated stops.

The following rules are for the protection of all students. Students should follow these rules:

  •  All students must remain seated at all times when the bus is moving.
  • Students must show respect and follow all directions of the bus driver and monitor. If seats are assigned, students must sit in their assigned seats.
  •  Students must keep their heads and arms inside of the bus.
  •  Students must use quiet voices while on the bus.
  •  Students may not throw objects of any type on the bus.
  •  Students must not touch other students while on the bus.
  •  Students must not bully, argue, bother, disrupt, or use foul language.
  • Students must not eat or drink on the bus.

Consequences for Violating Bus Rules

When a student misbehaves on the bus, everyone’s safety is jeopardized.  We will not tolerate inappropriate behavior on the bus. Major incidents such as fighting, being disrespectful to the driver, and throwing objects on the bus may result in an immediate suspension up to 10 days and/or expulsion from the bus.  Here are procedures we will follow when other problems occur.

  1. Bus driver will warn the student and may assign that student to another seat.
  2. Bus driver will contact parent to address the problem.
  3. Administrator will contact parents and determine an appropriate punishment.
    • Office referral
    • Suspension from riding the bus (from 1 to 10 days)
    • Expulsion from the bus for the remainder of the school year

Safe transportation of students is a serious matter and parents are expected to know, cooperate, and communicate with their child’s bus driver.  Students may not ride a bus other than their assigned bus or get off at any stop other than their designated stop without the written permission from the parent/guardian.  Students who go home with each other must have written permission from both households. Permission will be granted only if there is space available. All notes from parents and/or guardians must be signed by the principal or designee.
